The Gifts of the Spirit are among the most important topics of the New Testament. In 1 Corinthians 12:27, Paul described the Church as the Body of Christ. He explains that the parts of this Body are the believers who exercise various gifts. He also states that just as the parts of the human body have various functions and purposes, so do the gifts of the Spirit. So, without the supernatural gifts, the Church would become just another human organization.
Mankind over the centuries has tried to greatly diminish the gifts. However, they have not disappeared. When we finally begin to earnestly pray for their restoration to the Church and other believers, the present, latter-day outpouring of the Spirit will be even greater than what was originally witnessed.
Jesus gave us the command in Matthew 10:7-8 "Go." He followed it up with very clear and specific instructions, "And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons.'"
