Understanding the Authority of the Word of God is an essential key to the Believer's arsenal of faith. Until we as believers of Christ realize the Authority the scripture has in our life and world, we cannot truly live a life patterned after Jesus Christ.

God's word is expressed in two ways - The Bible, the written Word of God (Logos) and Jesus Christ - God's personal Word (Rhema). Let us look at the connection which Jesus had with the scriptures and how He applied them in his life on earth. Jesus stated in a conversation with the Pharisees in John 10:35 "...If he called them gods, unto whom the Word of God came, the scripture cannot be broken;" (referring to Himself and later believers in Christ being sons and daughters of God). In this mention by Jesus, He connects the Word of God and Scripture. Scripture is the written Word of God and cannot be broken, rather it is the truth and inspired by the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the Author of the Word of God. 2 Tim 3:6-17 gives us proof that "All scripture is given by inspiration of God." In the Greek, inspiration literally means "God-breathed" and is identical to the word "Spirit." All scripture is literally breathed into men by the Holy Spirit making it truth. Even though the scriptures were physically penned by men, fallible men who even record their own sins showing just how true and accurate the Holy Spirit speaks through these men used to write the Bible, the Scriptures are infallible and truth given by God. Any normal person would hide their sins in order to keep their validity and authority in tact. But the Holy Spirit moved upon these men to even reveal their sins and how they missed the mark in order for the Scriptures to be pure and undefiled (i.e. David and the Psalms).
